Who doesn't like a bit of privacy (or instant shade) in the garden?
Windlestone Nursery offers you a range of tall evergreen screening plants that includes varieties of 2m to 4m bamboo, Photinias, conifers and 4-5m pleached trees that when planted closely together will create an instant green wall - especially useful when your garden is overlooked by neighbours.
Established Leylandii, conifers or a wide variety of 2m-5m bamboo plants are the instant solution to your screening problem. You can grow most screening plants in pots, troughs or plant out directly into the soil. During the year we also bring in 5m tall pleached trees - our last order was sold within a few days of arrival to a major local landscaper. If you're not in a hurry then talk us to about what you have in mind and we'll order it in for you.
A few tips about screening
When selecting your screening plants, it's vital to 'measure' visually what size you'll need (not that easy with a tape measure because of distance and height involved).
A simple rule of thumb is: the closer you plant the screening wall to the area you want to use, the more area you will screen off from view.
For example: Planting a few 3m bushy bamboos within 1 metre of your patio will provide far more screening - width and height wise - than if you plant them 10 metres away.
Tip: If you can't see the neighbours' windows from where you visualise your screening plants to be placed, then they can't see you.
Screening plants are also great as temporary measure. For instance, for when you're waiting for a boundary hedge to grow that will eventually screen out the neighbours in the years to come, but feel you want something in the meantime to give you a little privacy, then we suggest investing in a temporary screen such as a trough of tall, dense bamboo or a few Photinia kept in individuals pots along your deck. These plants can always be planted out into the garden in the future.
When it comes to bamboo - we have superb dense bamboos in stock all year long - and if you're concerned about your spreading out of control in the years ahead if planted directly into your garden rather than a raised bed, decking planter, trough or container, we do offer bamboo control kits too.
